Exponential Functions

April 3 Tuesday Exponential functions
Well. I will be explaning same thing that is on your booklet so refer to your unit 4 booklet first page. If you have solved or copied during the class.
We've dealt with these type back in transformations unit so you should be familiar with it.
value a = is the constant (if negative, will reflect the basic curve in the X axis)
value b = the base (denominator of a)
value x = exponent (if negative, will reflect the basic curve in the Y axis)
value h = horizontal shifts ( if negative, shift to right, if positive shift to the left)
value k = vertical shifts (read the value as is)
where a and b are real numbers
a is anything but zero, and b is larger than zero but not 1.
This is the first question on Exponential Functions worksheet.
f(x) = 2^x-2 - 2
STEPS
1.create a data table and use x values as 1, 0 and -1 and solve for y ignoring h and k value.
2.according to your data table, plot the points on the graph and connect it.
3.That is your basic curve, which u will have to memorize.
4.Now shift that basic curve vertically or horizontally according to your values of h and k.
5.If the value of A negative, reflect all the points over the x axis
6.If the value of A is a fraction, reflect all the points over the y axis.
